Superstar Literacy Programs

The Literacy Center of Milford is currently looking for volunteers to participate in the Center’s two new “superstar” child-focused literacy initiatives: the Superstar Reader After-school and Superstar Family Literacy Night programs.  If you’re motivated, ready to read aloud and open up the imagination of a child whose reading skills need strengthening, or are prepared to engage family members in their child’s learning activities, please consider these
rewarding opportunities.

“The Center can supply the books, reading-
involved
games, and activities, as well as a safe and fun place in which to read for a child who requires extra coaching — either individually or together with family members,” says Tami Jackson, the Center’s executive director.  “All we need are enthusiastic volunteers willing to devote their energy and time for several hours a week with a gusto to read in taking kids to their
next literacy step.”

THE Milford Bank helping the community!

On November 16th The Milford Bank hosted a Charity Night at the Sound Tigers to benefit the charities listed below. In addition to the monetary donations, we collected food for the Beth-El Kitchen and the Sterling House Pantry. A generous sponsorship from ShopRite of Stratford and Milford, Ashcroft Inc., The Westfield Mall, Durham Bus Company and Milford Transit. They made it possible for the families of The Beth-El Center and the Boys and Girls Club to attend the game.

Way to go Barnes and Noble!

Thank you Barnes and Noble of Milford for choosing the
Literacy Center for your holiday book drive this year.

Children’s books are a great addition to our Books for Babies, Books for Toddler and Books for Birthday program.  We provide books and a packet of information to new mothers when their baby is born, explaining the importance of literacy at an early age. Upon the child’s first birthday, we give them another book with information for reading groups and encourage reading.  Last year we donated books to 1200 children. Your book donation will help continue to make this possible.
We also donate books to children on their birthdays at Boys and Girls Club of Milford,  Boys and Girls Village and Milford Resource Center.
