NEON NIGHTRUN DRAWS ELECTRIFYING CROWDS

A ‘river of neon’ ran through Milford last Saturday night as 419 registrants, wearing fluorescent T-shirts and glow necklaces and bracelets, ran or walked for the great cause of literacy at the Literacy Center of Milford’s first-ever NEON NIGHTRUN 2014 challenge.
There are many reasons why I like Milford. The coastal scenery, the easy commute, and a lovely hometown for my kids during their childhood; the small town of Milford is close to my heart.
Hot off the press is Book Smart: How to Develop and Support Successful, Motivated Readers by Anne E. Cunningham and Jamie Zibulsky. It’s the perfect toolkit of language and literacy activities and strategies for parents in order to make the most out of shared reading time with their children. The co-authors, both psychologists and educators by profession, reflect the new thinking about the importance of reading in a child’s development in school and in life. And they illustrate why a parent should hold the reins of reading with their child, and how to do it effectively.
