The Literacy Center of Milford, Inc. has undergone a name change to Literacy Volunteers of Southern Connecticut, Inc. The Literacy Center of Milford has been tutoring adults in the Greater Milford area, including 10 surrounding cities for 20 years. “We service many more communities than just Milford,” says Executive Director Tami Jackson. “It became important for us to change our name to properly serve the immigrant population and meet the needs as it continues to grow.”

My favorite vacation was with my two daughters to Nevada, Arizona and Utah in the summer of 2013.
I planned a good itinerary. We rented a car from Las Vegas and drove first to Bryce Canyon National Park, where we spent two nights. The scenic view of red, orange, and white colors of the rocks looked spectacular. It’s a popular destination for hiking, skiing, camping and horse riding.
Next stop was at Lake Powell Glen Canyon Dam. There is a reservoir on the Colorado River located between Utah and Arizona. A paradise for boating, water skiing and fishing.
We took a boat to see the Rainbow Bridge. It is 50 miles away from the lake’s shoreline. The Bridge is a natural arch, made from sandstone and it’s so amazing!
My daughters and I had a lot of fun that day. We went back to the motel to rest. In the morning we took a tour to Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons. These incredible Canyons have been created over many thousands of years. The sandstone has different forms, shapes, and beautiful colors. The professional photographers from all over the world just love this place.
On the fifth day we got on the road toward Zion National Park in Utah. We loved driving in the desert. It’s beautiful! There are a lot of hiking trails and cliffs along the Virgin River. Also, there are many different things to do, like camping, rock climbing and scenic driving.
The weather was always hot. We wore hats, light clothes, comfortable boots and drank a lot of water. We enjoyed the mountains and scenery! We would love to go back again– our best vacation!
