Welcome our new Fall tutors!

The Literacy Center is welcoming 7 new English as a Second Language tutors.  They completed a 5 week training session and have been assigned new students.  The next tutor training class will be in January.

AREA RESIDENTS, FRIENDS, AND SUPPORTERS GET A LIP-SMACKING “TASTE OF THE WORLD”
AT MILFORD LITERACY CENTER’S OCTOBER FUNDRAISER 

In a pre-Christmas season performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite,” Sydney Sachs, in the role of Clara, takes center stage in a stunning performance at The Literacy Center of Milford’s “Taste of the World” wine-and-food-tasting event on Oct. 11th at the Westwoods Ballroom in West Haven.  She was joined by other “nutcrackers” from the New England Ballet Company Avery Lasky (from Milford) as Sugar Plum Fairy, Shaina Arsenault (from Milford) as British Princess, Amanda Piechota as Spanish Princess, Eilidh Currie as Chinese Princess, and Mimi Zshack as Russian Princess.

The Milford Kiwanis was one of four organizations/companies who were honored for their continued support and dedication to the mission of The Literacy Center of Milford at its grand finale “Taste of the World” wine-and-food-tasting annual fundraiser event on Oct. 11th at the Westwoods Ballroom in West Haven.  (From left to right) Literacy Center of Milford President John Mager, Executive Director Tami Jackson, Board of Directors member Tracy Edwards, Milford Kiwanis President Victoria Stillings, Kiwanis Past President Mike Boyle, and Kiwanis Gideon King and Pat Tokarz. Other companies honored were the Orange Ale House of Milford, BIC Corporation, and Subway.

New Literacy Programs

The Literacy Center is partnering with West Shore Middle School and Bridges to offer a family literacy program this fall.  We will be offering after school tutoring, literacy activities and family evening literacy programs.  We will be looking for volunteers.  If you are interested in tutoring a middle school child or assisting in literacy activities, please call the Center for an interview. 

NEW CLASS STARTING–  We are offering a new morning ESL conversation class on Thursday mornings, 10-12, led by Florence Gambino.  If your student is interested in attending, please have them call the center.
